statement of intent (music video)



My music video will be on the track 'elevation' which is written by M huncho. My music video will allow the viewer to experience a journey; as this is shown in the lyrics. The viewer is put into the actor’s life and will be made to experience different aspects of it; from loneliness to love to anger to regret. My overall aim for the music video is to take my viewer through a journey and allow them to experience my actor’s life.

In most of the shots, I will want the main actor by himself to convey how he has gone through his journey on his own. The only other character that i want featured in the music video is a female that he has his eyes on possibly showing when he finally meets her.

I will use a mise en scene of nature to further emphasise how real and tough his experience is. My actor will be dressed in casual clothing to emphasise how the feelings expressed in the video is experienced by many young people. In one scene, I want the main actor to be alone in a dark room wearing a mask which I will use to create the meaning of hopelessness, loneliness and violence. The mask will also show that because at one point of his life he had reached his lowest, he lost his sense of identity and adopted one in which might not convey him as a whole but him at that specific time. With some of the shots, I will want the character to be outside which shows how he has escaped the feeling he was going through and is finally close to finding his happiness.


The issues regarded in my music video is, portrayed by the lyrics as well, struggle. The main actor is struggling in many areas of his life and as a solution for those problems he turns to a dark place where the result will always be negative. The way that the audience receives this message is through the mise en scene of the actor; how in most of the takes he his alone and the mask that he is wearing in some shots signifies a change of identity and the darkness he was surrounded by. The main element of my music video is to show how the main actor has elevated in life and overcome the struggles he had faced before.

My music video will be, in the real world shot by suave, a famous film producer that shoots many music videos that are going to be like mine. The platform that will be distributing my music video will be Grm daily.  Grm daily produces a lot of music videos that I want mine to look like

My music video is aimed at younger audience. The company that will publish and distribute my product will be universal studios. the intention of the music video is to acknowledge that there are people who are facing many struggles but choose to look at the bright side of things and overcomes these issues. It shows that overcoming these issues are not going to be easy but once you've gone past the boundaries, it will all be positive. I aim, from my music video, to help my audience with such issues and fro them to rise above them. 

For my website, I would want it to show information about the artist I chose to do the music video on; just general background information about him and his music type/ messages he puts forward. I will also include my music video, behind the scenes and takes that didn't make the final cut of the music video.  The representation i want to create from my website is a sense of belonging, i want my audience to feel as though they can come to the website, maybe after watching the music video, and they can feel comfort. One of the ways in which i can allow my audience to feel comfort on my website is the different areas i have on it. There's an area where users can purchase the CD of the song that was played on my music video, users can also purchase merchandise which will allow them to, physically, support the movement, users can also purchase live performances from the website so they can see the main artist live.

Task 2 Audience profile

HIP HOP AUDIENCE

Hip-hop as a genre isn't often marketed towards children or older adults due to it's themes and lyrics which are always either heavy with a social struggle theme or with a party like theme, with neither of those topics appealing to younger or very old audience.
Hip-hop also appeals to the youth who look up to idols. due to the fact that Hip-hop is such a popular genre for the youth, companies, such as Fila, Nike, Addidas, love to use rappers and artists to sell merchandise.
Old school hip-hop was all about the struggles of growing up in ghettos and inner cities with high crime rates and lack of care from the goverments. This lead to rap becoming a way for people to express themselves to the world.

Modern hip-hop is a lot more experimental with hip-hop being a lot more then struggle music. Future and drake (examples of modern rappers) focus on making music for parties and good vibes rather then deep thoughtful hood hits (which was the main aim for Hip-hop artists before). Old-school rap is still honored though with old beats still being used and artists such as Kendrick Lamar still pushing the importance of rap having a meaning.

Hip-hop music reveals fanship among males 18-24 shows the largest lift relative to the general population.
According to the billboards 2017, Kendrick lamar's (Hip-hop Artist) album ‘DAMN’ was the best selling album in 2017.
Hip Hop was the most streamed genre of 2014.  Top on demand audio streamed in 2015 was Drake's “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late” mixtape with 409 million streams. Three hip-hop songs were also among the top 10 on-demand singles streamed (audio and video) “Trap Queen” by Fetty Wap (290 million streams), “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth (251 million streams), and “Post to Be” by Omarion featuring Chris Brown and Jhene Aiko (147 million streams).
